You have probably already seen the first post after the latest Google Core Update: \u201cGoogle PENALISES AI content\u201d.And you may also have broken into a bit of a sweat if you are working with AI-driven content yourself. But let\u2019s get one thing straight: Google does not penalise AI. Google penalises poor content. Period. <\/p><\/div>\n\n

Google<\/a> has (almost) always penalised poor content, so there is nothing new under the sun here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if you have seen AI as an easy shortcut to quickly produce content<\/a> without quality\u2014well, then it is not the technology but the strategy that is the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI is not magic \u2013 but it is not dangerous either<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I have received a fair number of DMs about this exact topic, so here are the answers to the three most frequently asked questions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. \u201cWhat do you do now that Google penalises AI content?\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Not a damn thing differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First:<\/strong> Google does not penalise AI in itself\u2014they penalise content that provides no value. That applies to both AI-generated and human-written content. I also get flak for my own blog posts if I mess up the present-tense \u201c-s\u201d (which I do pretty much every time). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if you use AI to churn out pointless text\u2014yes, you will crash and burn. But if you use it to amplify your output, build on your knowledge, and spar with massive amounts of data, then it is a huge advantage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI is not a replacement for expertise\u2014it is an extension of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. \u201cShould I use AI in my SEO?\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Well\u2014should you use a screwdriver when you are assembling an IKEA shelf?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It depends on the task. AI is a tool. Sometimes it is copywriting, other times data processing, generating meta descriptions<\/a>, structuring schema<\/a>, or building a useful calculator. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do not use AI because it is trendy. Use it because it makes you faster, sharper, or cheaper. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yes, I would much rather read a text written by Alexander H. than generic AI. But that does not mean Alexander should sit and write 300 product descriptions where only the colour and size change. We need to be a bit smarter\u2014and a bit more efficient\u2014than that. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

3. \u201cShould my webshop use AI for pSEO?\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Maybe. But only if it makes sense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

pSEO<\/a> (programmatic SEO) is gold if you have many<\/em> landing pages that resemble each other and where the structure can be automated. This typically applies to webshops or companies with many physical locations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But here is the catch: It only works if you have enough data. And no, we do not mean \u201cgenerative data\u201d from ChatGPT\u2014we mean data from your own products, customers, or systems. In other words, something that actually matters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

pSEO without a data engine behind it is a bit like pouring light beer into a Ferrari. It works… but why would you? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Use AI \u2013 but use your head<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

AI is not the answer to everything. Nor is it a threat that needs to be fought. It is a tool, and if you use it correctly, you can get quite far. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But just like with everything else in marketing, the same basic principle applies:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If it is half-hearted, it is pointless.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

So no, Google does not penalise AI. They penalise useless content\u2014and you should too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember that Google has also introduced Google AI Overviews<\/a> themselves\u2014so Google also sees the point of using AI. It just needs to be done properly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
