Because that is the purpose of Google Ads\u2014to realise potential. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The logic, or the quicker answer<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is a longer rationale behind my formula, based on my experience running a <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/lead-generation\/google-ads-agency\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"64435\">Google Ads agency<\/a>. Therefore, I will assume that your Google Ads efforts are purchased externally (through agencies or consultants). <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Google Ads is a sales-driving marketing activity, and therefore I will calculate what you should spend on Google Ads based on the output you can expect to receive in lead value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"download\">Download the formula if you want<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have chosen to prepare the calculation so you can also find it in Excel, which you can download via the link below\u2014completely free of charge. <strong>I do not require your email, your <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/the-marketing-dictionary\/#cookie\">cookie<\/a>, or your firstborn<\/strong>. \ud83d\ude09 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this sheet, you can enter your values\/numbers where I have marked in green, and then you will get the answer to what you should invest in Google Ads. Note that the formula is designed for <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/lead-generation\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"64027\">lead generation<\/a> and not <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/what-is-e-commerce\/\">e-commerce<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following sections explain the logic behind the sheet, as well as how you should use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/morningbound.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Hvad-koster-Google-Ads-beregner-Morningbound.xlsx\"><strong>Download the calculation sheet here<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"leadvaerdi\">First, calculate what your leads are worth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First, you need to answer the questions below. Then we can calculate your Google Ads cost. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Answer the questions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What is an average customer worth to you? (just over 1 year) <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How many <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/what-are-leads\/\">leads<\/a> does it take before you have a customer (conversion rate from enquiry to customer)?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How many website visitors does it take to get one lead (conversion rate from visitor to lead)?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"513\" height=\"901\" src=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/kundevaerdi.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-16862\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/kundevaerdi.png 513w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/kundevaerdi-171x300.png 171w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 513px) 100vw, 513px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"kliks\"><strong>Calculate the value of clicks and leads<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the calculation below, I use an example where:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An average customer is worth DKK 150,000 in year 1<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>30% of all leads become customers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1.5% of visitors become leads<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DKK 150,000 in value in year 1 X 0.3 = <u>in this example, a lead is worth DKK 45,000<\/u><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DKK 150,000 in value in year 1 X 0.3 X 0.015 = <u>a click is worth DKK 675.<\/u> (therefore <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/cpc-what-is-it-and-what-do-you-need-it-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">click prices<\/a> can be high if they generate relevant traffic)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"villigbetale\"><strong>Calculation of what you should be willing to pay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now we know the value of a lead, so we can calculate what you should invest, and for that we need two rules of thumb:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The relationship between the budget for the consultant fee vs. ad spend should, <strong>ROUGHLY<\/strong> speaking, be about 33% for management and 66% for spend.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your Google Ads costs (incl. consultant fees) should amount to 35% of the lead value.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DKK 45,000 in lead value X 0.35 in rule of thumb no. 2 = <strong><u>DKK 15,750 per lead.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The split between ad spend and fees should be as follows in this example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>DKK 5,197.5 in fees per lead on average<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>DKK 10,552 in ad spend per lead on average<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"424\" src=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Hvad-betyder-CAC@2x-1-1024x424.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-38007\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Hvad-betyder-CAC@2x-1-1024x424.png 1024w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Hvad-betyder-CAC@2x-1-300x124.png 300w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Hvad-betyder-CAC@2x-1.png 1410w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"konklusion\"><strong>Conclusion to the question\u2014\u201cHow much money do you need to spend on Google Ads?\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the example presented, you should be prepared to pay <strong>DKK 15,750 per qualified lead<\/strong> from your Google Ads efforts, incl. consultant fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now you literally need to decide how many leads you think you can afford to \u201cbuy\u201d each month. You then multiply this number of leads by the cost per lead\u2014which, in the running example, we have set at DKK 15,750 each. This will give you the figure for what your monthly Google Ads investment should be.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>There you have it; the answer to how much Google Ads cost.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Calculation: \u201cI would like 2 customers per month.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using the same example as earlier, the logic dictates that with a 30% conversion rate on leads, we need 7 leads to achieve 2 customers = in this example, you should invest DKK 110,250 per month in Google Ads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It may sound high, but remember that you get DKK 150,000 in value per new customer (year 1).
