This applies whether you invest in a licence for an existing system or have a system developed from scratch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"453\" src=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Frame-24571-1024x453.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-58187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Frame-24571-1024x453.png 1024w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Frame-24571-300x133.png 300w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Frame-24571-768x340.png 768w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Frame-24571.png 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One thing is your one-off implementation costs; another is subscriptions, features, support, and operating costs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you should pay for an existing system or <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/digitalisering\/digital-selvbetjening\/\">have your own booking system developed<\/a> comes down to whether you need a system designed to meet many people\u2019s needs, or whether you have advanced business logic that does not fit into that box.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A booking system can be as simple as a contact form on \u201csteroids\u201d, where your website visitors can make an enquiry without anything actually being booked automatically, and without the system itself cross-referencing, for example, inventory or an external calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"prisen\">So what determines the price?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">The answer is fairly straightforward: as mentioned above, it is almost exclusively the complexity and number of features in the system that determine the price.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>But what is a feature, then? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, it could be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">A lot of rules (if the user has selected something, then other things should no longer be possible).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">If something needs to be validated\u2014especially if it needs to be validated by a third party (the system checks a calendar, a <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/what-is-crm-and-what-can-you-use-a-crm-system-for\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"47889\">CRM system<\/a>, or some other third party). <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Third-party integrations, especially integrations with email systems, as this also triggers validation.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">What you are booking\u2014whether it is people\u2019s time or a set of resources. For example, booking a hairdresser vs. booking a training course where the instructor also brings a physics kit.  <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Custom design and user journey. Also, think a few years ahead so you include any scaling and\/or strategic changes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We have listed 5 things you should cover in your considerations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. What pain point do you want to solve?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Why do you even want a booking system? You should also map what, in your business, generates the most revenue. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Is it the number of new customers?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Is it the average order size?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">The frequency with which a customer buys from you?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Is it upselling and cross-selling?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Is it direct contact with customers?<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Etc.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">By being clear about where the greatest value is created, you can also choose (or have designed) a system that accommodates exactly that.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">This way, you ensure you get a booking system that supports your core business and that the investment creates real value.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Is there already an industry-specific system?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Before you either have a system built uniquely for you or go out and almost recklessly choose an existing solution, you should consider investigating whether there are any industry-specific solutions for your niche.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">By now, a wide range of industry-specific booking systems have been developed for a host of industries:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Hotels<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Restaurants<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Hairdressers<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Event companies<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">Travel agencies<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span data-contrast=\"none\">And much more!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">The advantage of checking these systems out is that they often offer features based on extensive industry knowledge\u2014so you get features you may not have considered yourself, which can add a lot of value.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">At the very least, industry-specific booking systems can serve as inspiration for what your own system should include.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. What are the costs of the system?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Yes, it almost goes without saying\u2014you need to pay attention to the price\u2026 duh!<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">But what I mean is that you need to pay attention to what <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">type<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"none\"> of costs the system comes with. <\/span> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Some systems are priced based on your size; others are priced based on the features you need. Some systems have high setup costs; others may have no setup costs but instead high subscription or service costs. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">It should also be mentioned that if you choose to build a system from scratch, it can often be cheaper to invest a bit more in the initial development of the booking system so the flow logic is carefully thought through from the start, rather than trying to add it later.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Can you do it in phases (MVP)?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Last but not least: can you potentially phase your \u201cbooking system adventure\u201d so you can get to market quickly, test the solution, and gather user feedback, while also measuring an initial effect of the system before expanding the booking system with more features.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Most solutions are built on assumptions, and we know that, as a rule of thumb, 20% of your features generate 80% of your revenue\u2014so get live and find out whether you have identified the most essential functions, instead of trying to map every angle before going to market. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is the price difference so large?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">It depends entirely on the features you put in the basket when you buy a solution. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">If it is a contact form where a user can simply request a date, the solution may cost around DKK 15,000\u201325,000.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">But if the system needs to do things such as integrate with other systems, validate inputs in real time, have a unique user flow, or handle advanced business logic, then the system suddenly costs more\u2014we are talking DKK 350,000+.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">With booking systems, you are usually paying for features, not the brand\u2014so do not worry.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"eksisterendevsny\">Should you buy an existing solution, or develop your own?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCould the answer have something to do with features again?\u201d you are probably asking. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">DING DING DING DING! I am glad you asked\u2014and you are absolutely right. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">I have tried to list the pros and cons of developing your own versus buying an existing solution below:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"> <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span
