should consider a number of things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So do yourself a favour and do your homework before you dive headfirst into a website project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"hvad\">What do you want to achieve with a new website?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The very first thing you need to clarify is: what do you want to achieve with this investment?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A visual upgrade?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/content-concept\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"66482\">Rebranding<\/a>?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/lead-generation\/\" type=\"page\" id=\"66469\">More leads<\/a>?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A stronger SEO foundation?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consolidating multiple brands?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reducing administrative maintenance?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat you want from a new website\u201d should be your \u201cNorth Star\u201d that you use to navigate your decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every time you reach a crossroads both when choosing a supplier and throughout the project you should think: \u201cWhat brings me closer to what I wanted to achieve?\u201d and then make decisions based on the answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That way, you ensure you remember the underlying reason you went to market for a new website. But as Einstein said: \u201cresponsiveness is relative\u201d or something along those lines. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The point is that a developer has to manually build a <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/what-is-responsive-design\/hvad-er-responsivt-design-2\/\">responsive design<\/a> for each screen size you want to optimise for.<br>So if you want the best responsive experience across all screen sizes, a developer would have to code experiences for 20+ screen sizes = it gets expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alternatively, you select the 2\u20133 screen sizes your visitors primarily use and adapt the site responsively for those. That way, you get the best experience for the majority of visitors within a budget. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"664\" src=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Frame-24845.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-63245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Frame-24845.png 960w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Frame-24845-300x208.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"brugervenlig\">Plan for a user-friendly backend<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since you are getting a website anyway, it would be a good idea to focus 15\u201320% of the effort on building a backend that makes your lives easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tell me if the following sounds familiar:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You are a small marketing team (maybe a one-person band) with your 37 hours stretched to the limit by tens of thousands of tasks and on top of that, you are responsible for maintaining the website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So it often ends up being a \u201cFriday at a quarter to closing time\u201d task, done half-heartedly and in a rush.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trust me, you are by no means the only ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So make it part of your considerations what could make your lives easier, and have it built into the website\u2019s admin panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>It could be:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>That some information is automatically updated through integrations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repetitive content can be managed in one place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are clear-cut templates for different page types.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The site automatically adapts responsively.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You cannot do anything that does not align with your visual identity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Building a smart backend that supports your workflow and aims to reduce how much time you need to spend on maintenance is called <strong>\u201creducing marketing debt\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1440\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1544 \/ 1440;\" width=\"1544\" autoplay loop muted src=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/gutenberg-wordpress-showcase.mp4\" playsinline><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"cms\">Which CMS should you choose?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This question can quickly turn into a religious war, so I will steer well clear of that. I will simply emphasise that some <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/what-is-a-cms-and-what-should-you-be-aware-of\/\">CMSs<\/a> are good at one thing and others are good at something else\u2014so get some advice on CMSs before you choose one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When choosing, consider the following (note that the answers are subjective):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Which systems does the website need to integrate with?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which CMSs does the administrator have experience with?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Which features would you like to build into the website over time?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should it be open or closed source?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How many years do I want the solution to last?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What is your operating budget for the solution?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read our <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/comparison-of-platforms-for-b2b-websites-which-should-you-choose\/\">comparison of B2B CMS platforms here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1440\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1544 \/ 1440;\" width=\"1544\" autoplay loop muted src=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/gutenberg-wordpress-showcase.mp4\" playsinline><\/video><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"integration\">Integration with external systems<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is important for both the budget and the functionality of your website that you consider: which systems does it need to integrate with?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First and foremost, to ensure you do not lose integrations you already have on the existing site. But you can also do it to take the new website to heights the previous one did not reach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Should it integrate with your <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/technology-type\/crm\/\" type=\"technology-type\" id=\"105\">CRM system<\/a> so your leads automatically end up in the system the sales team uses to manage leads?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should it integrate with your intranet so it can automatically pull news or employee information into the website?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Should it integrate with your HR system so job postings are automatically published and maintained on the website?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or something else entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note:<\/strong> You can eliminate a lot of administrative work through <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/web-products\/integrations\/\">integrations<\/a>, but it comes with an implementation cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"575\" src=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Automatisering-af-processer-1024x575.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Automatisering-af-processer-1024x575.png 1024w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Automatisering-af-processer-300x168.png 300w, https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Automatisering-af-processer.png 1357w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Phasing the project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once you start working through all these considerations, you will quickly find that your wishes or needs exceed either the budget or the deadline and that is only positive; it means you have a roadmap with new development opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So if you are in a situation where you need to get a new website up and running within your budget and deadline, start by defining which features and requirements are \u201cneed to have\u201d and which are \u201cnice to have\u201d, and then consider postponing the latter to a phase 2 after the new website is live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is also a healthy exercise, because your needs will undoubtedly change during a website project, as it is impossible to be 100% clear before you start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So when you are on the other side of the website project, you can look at the task backlog for a potential phase 2 and assess whether those tasks are still important to you\u2014or whether something else has emerged that you want to prioritise first.<\/p>\n\n\n                                            <\/div>\n        <div class=\"mt-blog-post-content__small-related-posts\">\n                                <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <\/section>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Very few people actually \u201conly\u201d need an online business card.
