This is where the language version appears after a slash, such as <strong>domain.dk\/en<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Or you use a local or international top-level domain such as <strong>.se, .de, .co.uk or .com.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you have more than one language on your site, you need to make this choice, and the choice you make affects:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>User experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/what-is-seo\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"63330\">SEO<\/a> (both locally and internationally)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Potentially also your <a href=\"https:\/\/morningtrain.dk\/en\/average-conversion-rate-on-b2b-websites\/\" type=\"post\" id=\"59013\">conversion rate<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Read on in this guide to learn how to choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mt-tab-accordion mt-tab-accordion\" id=\"og\"><h3 class=\"mt-tab-accordion__title\">Fordele og ulemper ved begge l\u00f8sninger<\/h3><p class=\"mt-tab-accordion__text\">V\u00e6lg en l\u00f8sning nedenfor og bliv klogere p\u00e5 fordelene og ulemperne ved dem.<\/p><div class=\"mt-tab-accordion__label\"><span>V\u00e6lg et system og l\u00e6s mere om det:<\/span><\/div><div class=\"mt-tab-accordion__items\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-mt-tab-accordion-item mt-tab-accordion-item\"><div class=\"mt-tab-accordion-item__header\"><h4 class=\"mt-tab-accordion-item__title\">Undermappe (f.eks. &#8216;.dk\/en&#8217;)<\/h4><\/div><div class=\"mt-tab-accordion-item__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In most translation tools, this will be the default setting\u2014so if you do not make an active choice, this is most likely the version you are using.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea with subfolders is that your language versions are shown in a slug (subfolder) under your main domain, such as &#8220;morningtrain.dk<strong>\/en<\/strong>\/landing-page&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The SEO value and authority from the original domain are preserved, so your new language version &#8220;inherits&#8221; SEO value from the top-level domain and its traffic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It does not require you to own other domains.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disadvantages:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"is-not-included\">You will not be perceived as a &#8220;local player&#8221; in the markets you operate in. For example, the French will see you as a Danish player trying to establish yourself in the French market. This will affect your conversion rate to some extent.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"is-not-included\">Local rankings will be harder to achieve, as Google will view you as a foreign player. And Google loves local rankings. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-mt-tab-accordion-item mt-tab-accordion-item\"><div class=\"mt-tab-accordion-item__header\"><h4 class=\"mt-tab-accordion-item__title\">Topdom\u00e6ne (f.eks. &#8216;.se&#8217;)<\/h4><\/div><div class=\"mt-tab-accordion-item__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea behind choosing to display language versions with a unique top-level domain is that you appear more local in the market you are trying to address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, Germans will generally have more trust in a .de website than a .dk\/en, as it appears that you are genuinely in Germany. Combine this choice with a local office, and your conversion rate will almost certainly increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The same applies to the British with a &#8220;.co.uk&#8221; and the Swedes with a &#8220;.se&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Advantages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You use the most recognized domains in the markets you operate in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You appear as a company that operates in a market\u2014not merely as one that has translated its website.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It provides a more international profile.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Disadvantage:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"is-not-included\">SEO value must be built up in each market you work in. SEO value for a .de domain does not provide much value to a .se domain.
