Steno Diabetes Center Odense (SDCO)

Visual identity and design manual

Steno Diabetes Center Odense (SDCO) contacted Morningtrain because they wanted a cohesive visual identity for their external communications that reflected who they are and their affiliation with the Region of Southern Denmark and Odense University Hospital (OUH).

Problem

SDCO had a logo, but otherwise lacked a common thread in how they used their visual identity in external communications. This was a headache, as the missing common thread created an inconsistent experience for their target audience.

Plan

The visual identity needed to be tailored to SDCO’s target audience. Therefore, several workshops were held to identify a meaningful direction and format for the visual identity. From there, visual elements such as infographics were to be developed.

Result

The new visual identity was compiled into a design manual so that external communications would be streamlined for future use. Graphic material is still being produced on an ongoing basis, now following the common thread of SDCO.

Icons and infographics to make complex topics easier to understand

In developing the visual identity, there was a strong focus on creating a range of icons and infographics that could be used to help communicate complex topics to SDCO’s target audience.

Morningtrain and SDCO continue to work on developing additional visual elements based on the visual identity, as new needs constantly arise to make communication between professionals and the target audience easier.

Workshops kicked off the process

We started the entire process with a workshop, where we invited several representatives from SDCO. It was important to understand their current challenge and how we could help the target audience by creating a visual identity with them in focus.

In workshops, we use several types of exercises that help create constructive dialogue. This creates a “co-creation” process where we together determine how to set the direction for the final deliverable.
