Course platform and website for Tietgenskolen

Tietgenskolen in Odense was looking for a modernised website with an engaging visual identity and a course portal for their courses.

The course portal, in particular, was crucial, as the previous web solution involved a great deal of manual work to create and run courses—work they wanted to digitalise.

Problem

Tietgenskolen’s digital challenges were that their old website had an outdated visual identity that did not appeal sufficiently to the young target group and did not fully showcase the educational opportunities the school offered.

In addition, they had a number of course activities that required substantial administrative effort to maintain and operate in practice, and it was difficult to keep all course information up to date.

Plan

The plan initially included a series of design workshops, where user journeys, personas and design choices were outlined to meet the target group at eye level and capture their attention in the best possible way.

Next, the technical roadmap was clarified with a focus on making the course portal as easy to use as possible, so users could quickly get used to using it instead of the previous fully manual process.

Result

The result was a complete WordPress solution with extensive custom logic. This logic communicated, among other things, with internal servers at Tietgenskolen to retrieve and create courses, and to synchronise and fetch registrations from external systems.

In addition, these technical solutions succeeded in combination with a modernised design that strongly engaged young website visitors.

The course platform was one of the elements of the project that everyone was looking forward to launching.

It would significantly reduce administrative work and at the same time provide a clearer overview for prospective course participants. Today, the course platform is used very actively by website visitors.

Collaboration

Close collaboration makes complexity manageable

Tietgenskolen has several different teaching offerings and different departments, which naturally resulted in high complexity and many different needs, where compromises were necessary to get the project over the finish line.

The strong, close dialogue between Morningtrain and Tietgenskolen’s IT and marketing departments ensured that the most important needs of the various stakeholders were met, and the project was delivered successfully—something everyone was proud of and satisfied with.

Budget model

Time-box model keeps the budget on track

Tietgenskolen had many wishes, but also a budget they wanted to stick to.

Time-box budget management ensured that the overall budget was kept in mind when prioritising what, during the course of the project, was selected to be part of the solution.

This budget management fostered good and important discussions about need-to-have features versus nice-to-have features.
