Which email marketing platform is best for B2B and lead generation?
For us, there is no doubt—if you are B2B and want to work with lead generation, ActiveCampaign is the best choice. In this post, we have compared 5 email marketing platforms, weighed them against each other, and share our honest opinion of the systems, measured against B2B marketing.

Cut to the chase
Which email marketing system should you choose? You should read this post if you want an honest and straightforward answer. Not to have your choice validated. 😉
If you have ever tried to find the perfect email marketing system, you probably know that you get flooded with generic comparisons that say everything and nothing at the same time. We are not doing that here.
We will say it straight: Some systems are clearly better than others—and some you should avoid entirely. We look at which email marketing systems actually work for B2B and lead generation, and when you should choose what.
So what should you choose?
- B2B lead generation? Use ActiveCampaign. HubSpot, if you can afford it.
- E-commerce? Klaviyo is the best choice.
- Just newsletters? MailerLite can be a low-cost option.
- Do you want something mediocre? Then choose Mailchimp—but we would not recommend it.
We hope you now have a clear picture of what makes sense for you. And if you are still unsure? Then get in touch—we are not afraid to give you an honest answer.
ActiveCampaign – The best choice for B2B lead generation
If you work with B2B lead generation and are not using ActiveCampaign, you are missing out on a strong opportunity.
✅ Strong for B2B lead generation – With advanced automations, lead scoring, and flexible email flows, ActiveCampaign is an obvious choice for moving leads through the sales process.
✅ Flexible and scalable – You can start small and grow without switching platforms.
✅ Good balance between price and features – Cheaper than HubSpot, yet still with many of the advanced features.
✅ Good integration with CRM systems – If you use Pipedrive or another CRM, integration is easy.
❌ Can be difficult to set up – Especially for new users, the platform can feel a bit overwhelming.
❌ Requires some technical understanding – If you hate anything that smells of tech, it can be a challenge.
Conclusion: If you are a B2B company working with lead generation, ActiveCampaign should be your first choice—especially if you want powerful features without paying a fortune.
HubSpot – The powerhouse solution (but expensive)
HubSpot is a giant in B2B lead generation. It is an all-in-one solution, but it comes at a price.
✅ Perfect for B2B lead generation – Combines email marketing, CRM, and automation in one place.
✅ Great for complex sales cycles – If your sales process is long and requires many touchpoints, HubSpot is strong.
✅ Advanced tracking and reporting – You get detailed insights into your leads‘ behaviour.
❌ Expensive – Especially for smaller businesses.
❌ Overkill for many – Many pay for features they never use.
Conclusion: HubSpot is a strong solution, but only if you truly need everything it offers. If not, use ActiveCampaign and save a lot of money.
Klaviyo – The best for e-commerce (but only there)
If you run an online shop, Klaviyo is worth its weight in gold. But if you do B2B lead generation, forget it.
✅ Strong for e-commerce – Perfect for Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento.
✅ Advanced segmentation and automation – Makes it easy to target customers based on behaviour.
❌ Not for B2B – Lacks the features you need for lead generation.
❌ Can get expensive – If you do not have an online shop, you pay for a lot of features you do not use.
Conclusion: Do you have an online shop? Use Klaviyo. Do you not? Use something else.
MailerLite – Good for newsletters, but not for lead generation
MailerLite is a simple and inexpensive solution, but it lacks the features that make a difference for B2B lead generation.
✅ Affordable and easy to use – Quick setup and a user-friendly interface.
✅ Good for newsletters – If you only want to send emails, it is fine.
❌ Not for B2B lead generation – Lacks automation, lead scoring, and integrations.
❌ Not scalable – If your business grows, you will need to switch systems later.
Conclusion: If you just want to send newsletters cheaply, MailerLite works. But if you want to work seriously with lead generation, choose something better.
Mailchimp – Mediocre across the board
Mailchimp is well known, but that does not mean it is good. In fact, there are better alternatives for almost every need.
✅ Has the most basic features – Can be used for both B2B and B2C, but does nothing particularly well.
❌ Limited automation and tracking – Compared with ActiveCampaign and HubSpot, it is hopeless.
❌ Price increases over time – Mailchimp has become significantly more expensive without corresponding improvements.
❌ There are better alternatives – No matter what you need, there is a better choice.
Conclusion: There is no good reason to choose Mailchimp. It is not the best for B2B, B2C, or e-commerce. Use one of the other systems instead.
